Here are some answers to our frequently asked questions, if you would like to contact us feel free to call us at 512.299.0235 or email us at yoursmilingdog@yahoo.com

Where is your service area and what type of animals does The Smiling Dog provide service to?
Our service area covers Austin, and parts of Cedar Park, Pflugerville and Round Rock. We may provide services outside of our area for an additional charge depending on our schedule. We have experience with most types of animals including dogs, cats, horses, reptiles, hamsters and rodents, cows, chickens, rabbits and chinchillas.

How much do you charge and how do I pay?

Our rates are determined by the specific tasks we perform based on your pets needs. Since every pet is unique we will quote you a price after our initial consultation. In general our package pricing for daily visits starts as low as $13 per visit if you buy a month at a time. The average price for a single visit is around $18 for a single pet if you don’t get a package deal. Additional charges may apply and payment is required in full at consultation before the first visit for new clients. Existing clients are expected to leave full payment on first day of scheduled visit. Cash or check made out to “The Smiling Dog” is acceptable.

When I am out of town, how many times per day should a pet sitter visit my pets?

For dogs, three times a day is recommended. Dogs often get nervous while you are gone and require more frequent potty breaks and attention to avoid destructive or out of the ordinary behavior. For cats, one visit per day is usually sufficient unless medicine is administered. For all other animals visit frequency will be based on your needs.

How are my home and pets protected while I am away?
We are insured and bonded through Pet sitters LLC. We require you to complete vet release forms for emergency treatment and we compile a comprehensive pet profile and service agreement at the initial consultation. We do not allow anyone other than The Smiling Dog animal care specialists into your home to ensure the safety, security, and welfare of your pets and home. Please make sure all doors and windows are locked before you leave, including the garage, and please ensure your outside entry lights are left on prior to the first scheduled visit.

Do my pets need to be vaccinated?
We only require vaccination if your pets will be leaving your home for walks or field trips where they may encounter other animals. We highly recommend topical flea prevention and heart worm medicine for the health of your pets. Because we come to your home our services are especially helpful for those animals with sensitive health issues, auto immune disorders, animal aggression tendencies, and anxiety issues.

Do you keep my house key?
It is our policy to keep your keys on file in a secure location for future visits. If you prefer to have your keys returned we charge a $10 key return fee. Please have two working house keys available for us when we arrive for your initial consultation.

What can I expect when I return home?
A happy, content pet waiting to greet you and a “daily report card” detailing our visits. Feel free to call us with any questions or suggestions after you return. You can also contact us for updates or to check in while you are away, we know you miss your pets!
